PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine for enhancing heat radiating performance of combustion gas, sufficiently securing strength to the combustion gas and reducing weight. SOLUTION: This piston 30 for the internal combustion engine is composed of a head part 31, a cylindrical skirt part 34 continuing with a lower part of the head part 31 and a pair of pin boss parts 37 formed on both opposed side walls of the skirt part 34, and recessed parts 40 having a cross section presenting a smooth circular arc are formed in a plurality on an opposite side surface of a surface facing to a combustion chamber 38 of the head part 31, that is, the reverse face 33.
