PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material carrying device capable of preventing trouble on the jamming of sheet material by surely feeding the leading edge of the sheet material to a roll immediately after correcting the position of the sheet material and preventing the trailing edge side of the sheet material from being folded or wrinkled because of the transmission of a loop, and to provide an image reader and an image forming device equipped with the sheet material carrying device. SOLUTION: By simultaneously driving a pair of reverse carrying rolls 25a and 25b and a pair of 2nd resist rolls 26a and 26b immediately after correcting the position of an original, the leading edge of the original is surely fed to the bonding part of a rotating body in this sheet material carrying device 10. Then, the loop of the leading edge of the original is eliminated in an early stage by stopping the pair of reverse carrying rolls 25a and 25b earlier than the pair of resist rolls 26a and 26b in the midst of carrying the original.
