Decarboxylation of 3,4-alkylenedioxythiophene dicarboxylic acids (see DE10029075) to yield 3,4-alkylenedioxythiophenes is effected in an amine solvent. Decarboxylation of 3,4-alkylenedioxythiophene dicarboxylic acids (see DE10029075) to yield 3,4-alkylenedioxythiophenes is effected in an amine of formula N(R<1>)(R<2>)R<3> (I) as solvent. R<1>-R<3> = H, optionally substituted 1-30C alkyl or optionally substituted 6-14C aryl or R<1> and R<2> together form a ring-forming 3-10C alkylene group.
