Vacuum cleaner filter assembly

A vacuum cleaner (10) has a tank (12) and a lid (14) for closing off the tank (12). A motor/impeller unit (16) is disposed inside the tank (12) for generating an airstream. A filter support (26) is attached to the lid (14) and disposed inside the tank (12). A foam sleeve (32) for removing liquid from the airstream is attached to the filter support (26). An air filter cartridge (40) is removably attached to the filter support (26) outside of the foam sleeve (32). The foam sleeve (32) may remain in place as the filter cartridge (40) is attached for dry pick-up or removed for wet pick-up. In addition, a drain hole (80) is provided in the lid (14) for draining liquid passing through the foam sleeve (32).
