The present invention relates to a loop forming unit used in a dual-system circular knitting machine (Fig. 1), wherein said unit comprises a needle cylinder (1) as well as a needle lock (2) that comprises two cam systems (3, 4) in the form of two closed flutes along which heels (5, 6) and needles (7, 8) are capable of displacement. The clearing cam (9) of the first cam system (3) is arranged above the stitch cam (10) of the second cam system (4), while the stitch cam (11) of the first cam system (3) is arranged above the clearing cam (12) of the second cam system (4). Upon rotation of the needle lock (2), all needles carry out continuously a complete loop-formation process. When the thread from a thread guide (13) is placed under the hook of the needle (7) that moves towards the formation and hold-down point, said thread is transported behind the back of the needle (8) that moves towards the clearing point. The thread lengths of the two systems fill in the inner structure of the knitted cord thus formed and are used as a reinforcement.
