A casing (1) is closed by end covers (2, 5) with openings (3, 6) and includes an upper tube sheet (8) over an internal vessel (10) with a partition (11) having tube openings (24) at right angles and dividing upper- (12) and lower- (13) gas chambers. Two corresponding openings (15, 16) enter the upper gas chamber through the casing. Two corresponding openings (23, 18) enter the lower gas chamber. One opening (18) is arranged in the separator casing and the other opening(s) is/are arranged in the base and/or sidewalls of the inner vessel. Preferred: Tubes (20) are hung in the tube sheet (8). They pass through the partition, extending into the lower gas chamber. They are at least partially constructed with membrane tube regions (21) located in the lower gas chamber. The membrane tube region comprises a gas-permeable support tube, with added gas-tight oxygen ion- and electron conducting ceramic membrane. The membrane tube region is alternatively a monolithic ceramic, with the same properties. The tubes extend through the base of the inner vessel into the gas chamber (7) below. On the inside of the casing and/or on the inside of the cover(s), a thermally-insulating layer is applied. On the tube sheet (8), pipe sections (9) are arranged, to which the tubes (20) are fastened. At the openings (24) in the partition, the tubes are equipped with metal bellows (19) fastened to them by their ends, preferably gas tight. In the upper gas chamber and/or in the lower gas chamber, turbulence intensifiers are located. The separator is of cylindrically-symmetrical construction.
