A device or method which, in processing or crowning throat height to a predetermined value, makes it possible to connect an added electrode or the like to a leader electrode in a simple manner and to measure the amount of grinding required. A flexible electrode extension sheet consisting of a portion for holding a ceramic bar formed with an element section and a portion formed with wire connections to be connected to these elements correspondingly to the latter is used to electrically connect the elements to the wire connections easily connectible to an external measuring system, whereby the amount of grinding is easily found from the characteristic amounts for the elements in the grinding process.
