Production of silicates involves: (a) reacting silicon and/or its compounds preferably silicon-hydrogen compounds) with nitrogen in the presence of a transition metal element or its oxide as catalyst at moderate temperature; and (b) reacting the obtained silicon nitride (Si3N4) with strong base or its aqueous solution.
