<p>A method of manufacturing precision machined thin sleeves (30), as for engine cylinder liners in which the outside diameter of a thick walled tubular preform (26) is first machined to a finish size, and the preform (26) chucked in an encircling jaw chuck (10) on the preform outside diameter. The inside diameter is machined to a finish size having a desired wall thickness. The encircling surfaces (18, 20) of the chuck jaws (12, 14) create a slightly undersized circle to clamp the preform (26) to a predetermined degree.</p> |
