Manipulation of data encoded in a mark-up language

There is disclosed a method and a system for rendering a page encoded in a mark-up language source. Many particular embodiments relate to rendering documents encoded in Hypertext mark-up language ("HTML"). The method comprises a translating step in which the mark-up language source is translated into data in an intermediate format and a display step in which a display rendering the page is generated. The intermediate language data preferably includes all information needed to generate the display in the display step, such that the mark-up language source need not be referred to in the display step. The intermediate language data is preferably binary format data. <IMAGE>
