A method for quenching the rail by transformation of structure thereof from austenite into another one, being stable at the room temperature. To provide constant distribution of the structure along the rail in the cross section thereof the method involves alignment, horizontal positioning and fixation in the state of axial alignment with the purpose of fixation of the rail against bending in its austenite state. During holding the rail fixed in the state of axial alignment and fixation against bending the rail is forcedly cooled in order to allow the transformation of austenite structure in the mentioned other structure. To realize this method the invention provides for the mechanism for quenching the rail, which contains cooling mechanism, at least two fixed mechanisms for axial alignment and fixation of rail against bending during the forced cooling.
