PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foldable portable telephone set with incoming recognizing function by which a user can speedily recognize voice incoming or mail incoming in a folded state. SOLUTION: A memory 5 stores the presence/absence of unattended telephone incoming or new mail receiving at folding state. An opening/closing detecting part 6 identified and detects the opening/closing state of the folding portable telephone set. When the detecting signal of a change from folding state to opening state is received from the opening/closing detecting part 6 and the identification signal, and when receiving memory presence is received from the memory 5, a control part 3 controls the ringing operation of the identification tone of a speaker 7. Thus, by opening the folding portable telephone set, the presence/absence of unattended incoming or new mail receiving can be identified, without having to confirm the display contents on a display.
