PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fast discriminate an original having non-projecting print from an original having projecting print in a simple and inexpensive constitution just by reading the shadows produced by height of the projecting print with no dependence on the hand touch feeling and by means of a scanner. SOLUTION: A LED 306 applies the light in an infrared region on an original 18 at an angle other than vertical, and a sensor reads the light reflected on the original 18.
