PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical alignment mode liquid crystal display device having high display quality and to provide a simple and useful manufacturing method for it. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has alignment layers 19 and 29 each having a first alignment regulating region R1 for substantially vertically aligned liquid crystal molecules 32a in a pixel region and also each having a second alignment regulating region R2 for aligning liquid crystal molecules 32b in one azimuth angle direction in a region except the pixel region.
