PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a strengthened glass substrate the surface of which is made so smooth as to be usable for a high-density recording medium by cleaning the surface of the glass substrate after strengthened to remove stuck materials. SOLUTION: The glass substrate is strengthened by immersion into strengthening liquid tank. The resultant glass is them immersed in water to dissolve the residual materials stuck to the glass substrate. After that, the glass substrate thus treated is conveyed to a cleaning tank while keeping the wet state of the glass substrate surface without drying it to perform the cleaning.
