PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply-structured covering device in a copying device capable of realizing excellent copying by surely covering over both a sheet type object to be copied and a solid object to be copied. SOLUTION: This covering device for an object to be copied 3 in the copying device is equipped with an original cover 20 provided to be freely opened/closed on an object-to-be-copied placing table 5 of an image reader 2, and at least an object-to-be-copied housing space 29 for housing the solid object to be copied M at the time of reading the image of the solid object to be copied M is formed at the part of the cover 20 on the placing table 5 side.
