PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the qualitative durability of a magnetic field modulation type magneto-optical recording medium and to protect the fine appearance. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording medium 1 is obtained by successively stacking at least a magneto-optical recording layer 5, a reflecting layer 7 and a protective layer 8 on a light transmissive substrate 2. The protective layer 8 is formed by successively stacking a first protective layer 8a and a second protective layer 8b from the substrate 2 side, the first protective layer 8a contains a dye and a lubricant has been added to the inside of the second protective layer 8b.
