PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device realizing a display with a wide viewing angle and with high color reproducibility. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal cell 1, polarizers 4 and 5 placed opposite to each other via the liquid crystal cell 1, a phase difference compensating element 2 (and 3) arranged between the liquid crystal cell 1 and at least one of the polarizers 4 and 5 and an anti glare layer 16 arranged on the viewer's side of the polarizer 4 disposed on the viewer's side.
