A hand pad apparatus (10) for protecting the median nerve, dampening vibration, and absorbing shock including a protecting mechanism (12) for preventing the application of pressure to the median nerve. The protecting mechanism (12) includes parallel cushion portions (24) defining a recess (14 ) therebetween and a recess maintaining mechanism (22) for maintaining the recess between the cushion portion from reducing the size of the recess. A method of combining median nerve protection, vibration dampening, and shock absorbing to inhibit or prevent carpal tunnel syndrome and a method of determining the proper width of a recess defined by parallel portions of a cushioned pads by determining the type of the cushioned pad material.</SDOAB >
