<p>A liquid heating appliance, a kettle for example, has a retractably mounted, movable handle which is in retracted condition during heating operation of the appliance and in extended condition when the liquid has been heated to a predetermined level, for example has been boiled. The invention proposes that the act of retracting the handle switches on the appliance and that when the liquid reaches the predetermined temperature, the handle is ejected into extended condition in the act of switching off the appliance. The movement of the handle co-operates with various other features of the appliance, such as a releasable latch arrangement, a locking arrangement associated with the closure lid of the appliance and flaps associated with the pouring spout of the appliance. Advantageously, the appliance provides safety and has a new and aesthetically pleasing appearance.</p> |
