The invention relates to a wireless communication system, such as a cellular radio system, and a method for transmitting reception information on the receiving end to the transmitter, the system comprising at each cell at least one network part of the system communicating with subscriber terminals in its area, and in which method the network part of the system measures the quality of a signal received from a terminal, such as the bit error ratio (BER) of the signal, and transmits the measured quality information to the terminal to be indicated to the user of the terminal or the control part of the system, which transmits an announcement selected on the basis of the quality information to the terminal via the network part to be indicated to the user of the terminal. The terminal indicates the quality information or the announcement by means of a voice signal or visually by an icon, for example.
