The device has a connecting rod (8) mounted to a piston (6) at one end and to a crankshaft (10) at the other end. The connecting rod is mounted on the piston by an eccentric element (16), to which an oscillating element (24) is rigidly fixed. The oscillating element is connected to an adjusting device (26) to pivot the oscillating element, so that the rotational position of the eccentric element can be altered to modify the compression.
