The use of the following agents (I) is claimed for the prophylaxis and therapy of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH): (a) phytoestrogens, (b) selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERM's), (c) antiestrogens, (d) estriol, (e) soybean extracts or (f) isoflavones. - ACTIVITY : Cytostatic. - MECHANISM OF ACTION : Estrogen antagonist. (I) cover estrogen receptors without activating them, to block the action of estrogens and counteract the causes of BPH (i.e. an excess of estrogens over androgens and stimulation of prostate tissue by age-associated elevated estrogen levels).
