A method of modifying packaging (10) comprising directing an energy beam (18) from a low powered laser (16) onto an optically opaque surface (12) of the packaging (10) to be modified and causing relative movement to take place between the energy beam (18) from the low power laser (16) and the packaging (10), by means of computer control (not shown) of the laser, so as to produce a frangible line of weakness (20) on the packaging (10).
