A modulated pressure regulator downstream of the cathode outlet, varies back pressure of gas leaving the cathode (26). Measurements are taken from the surroundings, and of system operational state. These are sent to a controller (44) modulating the regulator (42), and optimizing system performance in response to surrounding conditions.
