MALTO-OLIGOSACCHARIDE DERIVATIVES AND USE THEREOF

Substances which hinder human alpha -amylase potently and are effective in the prevention and treatment of hyperglycemia such as diabetes and diseases due thereto; and alpha -amylase inhibitors and preventive or therapeutic drugs for hyperglycemia, containing the substances as the active ingredient. Specifically, malto-oligosaccharide derivatives represented by the general formula, or hydrates or physiologically acceptable salts thereof; and alpha -amylase inhibitors and preventive or therapeutic drugs for hyperglycemia such as diabetes, containing the derivatives, the hydrates, or the salts as the active ingredient, wherein n is an integer of 0 to 2; m is an integer of 0 to 2; and X is hydrogen or a hydrophobic group.
