A lighting device for cinematograph projectors or lanterns having an ignition circuit and an operating circuit, comprises a tubular lamp requiring the application of a high voltage for ignition located in a housing 1 having one or more access doors 8, 9 adapted to be fastened in closed position and having associated therewith a push button switch 14 (or 15) which must be closed by closure of the access door 8 (or 9) before the ignition circuit of the lamp can be completed but which may subsequently be opened during operation of the lamp without interrupting the operating circuit. The doors 8, 9 are each double walled and hinged at the top to the housing 1; switches 14, 15 associated with the doors comprising push buttons 16 which complete the circuit across terminals 17, 18 when the door is closed. The doors are fastened by catches 22 having hooked ends 23 which engage behind abutments 27 on the housing and are biased to closing position by springs 25. The catches are released by finger pressure through apertures 29 in the doors. The switches 14, 15 are arranged in series with one another and with a starting switch. |
