PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bar-shaped workpiece supplying method and device simplified in a setup work and capable of adopting to bar-shaped workpieces of a wide range in an object for supplying bar-shaped workpieces from a chuck side to a main spindle moving type vertical machine tool. SOLUTION: This bar-shaped workpiece supplying method for supplying the bar-shaped workpiece 9 having an axis direction dimension longer than a radial direction dimension to the main spindle moving type vertical machine tool 1 is provided with a procedure for moving a headstock 4 to a position where a chuck 6 is capable of receiving the bar-shaped workpiece 9, a procedure for moving the bar-shaped workpiece 9 with only a lower end part vicinity supported at a supplying position for supplying the bar-shaped workpiece 9 to the chuck 6, a procedure for correcting the axis direction of the bar-shaped workpiece 9 located at the supplying position so as to be substantially parallel with the axis direction of a main spindle 5, a supplying procedure for supplying the bar-shaped workpiece 9 corrected in the axis direction from the chuck 6 side into the main spindle 5 and a clamping procedure for clamping the bar- shaped workpiece 9 supplied into the main spindle 5 by the chuck 6.
