PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the discharge mechanism of a food processing residue decomposing apparatus which can discharge or separate/discharge compost stably by simple structure. SOLUTION: An agitation mechanism 5 composed of a rotary shaft 10 to which agitation rods 17 are joined is provided in an agitation tank 4. A porous discharge opening 8 is formed on one side of the tank 4 positioned in parallel with the rotary shaft 10. When a food processing residue 1 is decomposed/ volume-reduced, the agitation mechanism 5 is rotated to move the contents of the tank 4 to the side opposite to the opening 8. After the residue 1 is decomposed/volume-reduced and converted into compost 2, by rotating the mechanism 5 reversely to move the contents of the tank 4 to the opening 8, the compost can exclusively be separated/discharged.
