PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preparing zinc oxide fine particles having high transparency to visible light and excellent UV shading. SOLUTION: This method comprises the steps of introducing carbon dioxide gas into an aqueous slurry containing zinc oxide to form basic zinc carbonate, drying it, and pyrolyzing the dried basic zinc carbonate by rotary kiln or the like under pulverization by steel balls or the like to obtain zinc oxide fine particles.
