Recombinant nucleic acid (I), comprising regulatory sequences of a promoter, functional in plant cells, DNA sequence (II) encoding a protein (III) with acylhydrolase activity, and regulatory sequences that function as transcription, termination and polyadenylation signals in plant cells, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) vector containing (I); (2) host cell containing (I) or the vector of (1); (3) recombinant (III); (4) preparing plants and plant cells that contain (I); (5) transgenic plant cells, containing (I) or the vector of (1), produced by method (4); (6) transgenic plants (also their parts, harvested products and replicative material) containing the cells of (1); (7) identifying nucleic acid sequences that encode (III); and (8) altering the content of polyene fatty acid (PEFA) residues in transgenic plants by modifying lipoxygenase (LOX)-dependent metabolism of PEFA. |
