PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of components, to simplify a structure to reduce the cost, and to straightly advance the paper from a hopper to a paper conveying path. SOLUTION: In this paper feeder where a paper returning member 42 is rotated from a laying-down position to a standing position to return the double fed paper to the hopper 3 under a condition that a paper feeding roller does not feed the paper, the paper returning member 42 is provided with a collapsing prevention member 5 mounted at a rotational fulcrum 43 side of the hopper 3 with respect to a separating pad 4, and a second collapsing prevention member 48 is mounted on a paper guide 49 at a rotational fulcrum side of the hopper. The paper can be straightly and stably advanced to the paper conveying path by the action of the collapsing prevention member and the second collapsing prevention member even under a condition that a point of the paper is extruded from a collision face 41c of a contact part and floated at the rotational fulcrum side of the hopper in setting the paper and feeding the paper.
