PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper separating mechanism capable of optimizing the paper separation by combining a retard roller and a corrugation roller in a state to improve their advantages and to compensate their defects. SOLUTION: This paper separating mechanism comprises a first separating roller 2, second and third separating rollers 2b and 2c mounted left and right of the first separating roller 2, the retard roller 3 capable of nipping the paper P with the first separating roller 2, and preventing the double feeding of the paper P by a torque limiter built therein, and a pair of corrugation rollers 4 and 5 rotatably mounted on a spindle 3a of the retard roller 3, and respectively located between the first and second separating rollers 2 and 2b, and the first and third separating rollers 2 and 2c, the corrugation rollers 4 and 5 are eccentric to the spindle 3a, and the corrugation rollers 4 and 5 can be set in a posture to be advanced to a central direction from circumferential surfaces of the first through third separating rollers 2, 2b and 2c, after the paper P is nipped by the first separating roller 2 and the retard roller 3.
