PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 1,3-dialkyl-4-methylpyrazole-5- carboxylic acid compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 1,3-dialkyl-4-methylpyrazole-5- carboxylic acid compound represented by formula (III) (wherein, R1, R2 and R3 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group) is characterized in that a pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid represented by formula (I) (wherein, R1, R2 and R3 and the same as these in the above formula) is reacted in an organic solvent in the presence of one or more kinds selected from formaldehyde and its equivalent, one or more kinds of acid catalysts selected from a mineral acid and a Lewis acid, and hydrogen chloride to provide a 4- chloromethylpyrazole-5-carboxylic acid compound, represented by formula (II) (wherein, R1, R2 and R3 are the same as these in the above formula), and the 4-chloromethylpyrazole-5-carboxylic acid compound is dechlorinated under a reductive condition.
