PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing the infection with a verotoxin- producing bacteria, especially O157 and an antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as MRSA and VRE by using the essential oil of Mosla chinensis Maxim. which is a plant of the genus Mosla. SOLUTION: The essential oil produced by the steam distillation of Mosla chinensis is dissolved or dispersed in a diluting medium such as water or ethanol to obtain a liquid disinfectant having a concentration of >=0.1%. The liquid is applied to clothes, beddings or tableware by immersion, impregnation, coating, spraying, etc., to effect the sterilization of the object in a short time.
