PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet feeder capable of attaching/detaching a paper sheet feed cassette and connecting/disconnecting a lift plate to/from a lift plate driving means from either the front side or the back side or either the right side or the left side of an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The paper sheet feed cassette C1 comprises a cassette body 101 and the lift plate 102. The lift plate 102 is a bent plate, pivotably supported by one turning shaft 108 arranged substantially at the center of a bottom plate 11 in the cassette body 101 as a support shaft for the turn in the vertical direction, and paper sheets 4 are placed thereon. One half portion 102a with a front end side of the paper sheets 4 placed thereon is turnable while the other half portion 102b with the hear end side of the paper sheets 4 placed is fixed to the bottom plate 11, but can be turnable. One half portion 102a of the lift plate 102 and the other half portion 102b are vertically turned by a lift plate driving means 500.
