PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new 4-(1-fluoroethyl)thiazole-5-carboxylic acid amide derivative which has not been known to have pest-controlling activities for agriculture and horticulture because of a new compound, and further to provide the pest-controlling agent for the agriculture and horticulture containing the derivative as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This 4-(1-fluoroethyl)thiazole-5-carboxylic acid amide derivative is represented by formula (1) [wherein, R is a substituted or nonsubstituted phenyl group, a substituted or nonsubstituted phenoxy group or a substituted or nonsubstituted thenyl group; and A is a direct bond or a linear or branched 1-6C alkylene group].
