PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable handheld recorder in which a good record quality can be sustained even if movement of the recorder is unsettled or the moving speed is varied due to slacking or creasing of a recording medium. SOLUTION: When a user performs recording on a recording medium using a recording head while moving the housing of a recorder on the recording medium, the recorder itself detects the moving speed of the housing and the timing for supplying a drive signal for the recording head is regulated based on the detection results.
