PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover treated water of high quality which is applicable to the production of ultrapure water by removing volatile organic substances such as IPA, or the like, in wastewater containing the organic substances easily and efficiently. SOLUTION: In a method for treating the wastewater containing the volatile organic substances in which the wastewater, after being heated at 75-95 deg.C, is contacted countercurrentwise with gas in a diffusion column 3, the difference between the temperature of the water before being contacted with the gas and the temperature of the water after being contacted with the gas is 12 deg.C or below.
