<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate aerobic fermentation by performing the pH control of a fermentation tank, in operation for dehydrating sludge generated in an excretion treatment plant, or the like, to aerobically ferment dehydrated sludge and to propagate microorganisms. SOLUTION: In a method wherein an inorganic salt type flocculant is added to sludge generated in the excretion treatment plant or the like, to dehydrate sludge and the obtained dehydrated cake (1) is charged in a fermentation tank (10) to be stirred while air is supplied to the dehydrated cake to perform aerobic fermentation, ground shells (4) with a particle size of 2 mm or less obtained by grinding shells (2) are added to and mixed with the dehydrated cake (1) to adjust the pH of the dehydrated cake (1) to 5.5-9.0. In this pH control method of compost using the dehydrated cake, the ground shells adjust the pH value of the cake to that capable of propagating highly active aerobic bacteria, and an organic acid generated in a fermentation process reacts with the ground shells to prevent the lowering of pH.</p> |
