PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning preforms and an apparatus therefor, which can efficiently clean the inner and outer surfaces of a large amount of preforms including their open parts without leaving any non-cleaned part in a conveyor system. SOLUTION: A preform 3 is held by a holding part 13 one at a time, a pinion 29 is rotated by the hoisting of a rack 32 with rotation of a rotary frame 8, and the preform 3 is placed in an upside-down position by rotating the holding part 13 around the axis of the pinion 29 as the center. While a lifting rod 36 is lifted with the rotation of the rotary frame 8, the inner surface of the preform is cleaned with continuous air blow from an inner surface cleaning nozzle 15 before and after the nozzle 15 enters the preform, and at the same time, the outer surface is cleaned with air blow from an outer surface cleaning nozzle 41 at a fixed position. Static electricity is eliminated from the preform before finishing cleaning by the inner and outer cleaning nozzles 15, 41.
