PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for efficiently obtaining purified interferon(IFN) by approximately completely removing an admixed protein derived from an insect by a simple means in a method for producing IFN by infecting an insect such as a silkworm, etc., with a recombinant baculovirus. SOLUTION: This method for producing an purified IFN is characterized in that a solution of IFN produced by infecting a host with a recombinant baculovirus incorporated with a gene encoding an IFN protein is subjected to (1) a treatment including silica gel column chromatography, anion exchange column chromatography and metal chelate column chromatography or (2) an acidifying treatment followed by a treatment including anion exchange column chromatography and metal chelate column chromatography.
