A barrier is provided which is capable of direct attachment to the ground or other support surface. The barrier comprises one or more clapper members (3) pivotally attached to a base member and moveable between a first (operational) position and a second (rest) position by pneumatic or hydraulic means (e.g. bellows (6)). The maximum angle between the clapper member (3) and the base member may be limited by means of a hinge (2) which is optionally provided with a cut-out or a shear-pin, whereby the hinge will break on application of a predetermined force to the clapper member (3). |
