The receiver section of the satellite repeater combines signals uplinked at e.g. 30 GHz via low noise amplifiers (30), and feeds them via hybrid input circuits (32) to a bank of receivers (34), where they are frequency translated to e.g. 20 GHz for subsequent transmission in the downlink. The signals are separated in input multiplexers (36) and applied to channel amplifiers (38) which preferably have individual gain control inputs, responding to a control signal received from the relevant ground station, to set the power level in that downlink. The amplified signals are fed to hybrid output circuits (40) before they are power-amplified (42, 44) and demultiplexed (46). An Independent claim is included for a space vehicle forming a number of beams covering regions on the earth incorporating a receiver according to the invention.
