The invention relates to a method for drying of timber. In the method, timber 7, 11 is dried in a unitary drying compartment of the type divided into two zones 1, 2, whereby the timber is displaced from the first 1 zone to the second 2 zone during the proceeding of the drying, whereby the timber has a lower temperature than the dewpoint temperature of the drying compartment 1, 2 when it is introduced into the first zone 1, and temperature and moisture is measured in the different zones 1, 2.
