PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method and sensor for urine which make the operation thereof stable with limited malfunctioning. SOLUTION: A urine detection sensor 2 is provided near a urination part of a diaper or the like. The urination sensor 2 herein used is a conductive membrane fixed resistor constituted of a pair of electrodes 8 and 8a and a conductive membrane 9. The conductive membrane 9 employs a membrane comprising carbon, metal or an alloy, that is, a type utilizing anodic oxidation or a membrane comprising metal such as tin-antimony or a metal alloy oxide, that is, a type utilizing cathodic reduction. In the former, contacting urine raises the dielectric constant because of the anode oxidation and in the latter, to the contrary, the dielectric constant lowers because of the cathode reduction. The urine sensor 2 is always energized with a weak current and electrically detects changes in the dielectric constant to emit an alarm. This achieves a stable operation and eliminates malfunctioning as compared with the conventional art in which a gap is provided between the electrodes to sense electric energization with urine thereon acting as a conductor.
