PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve focus detection at low luminance and to efficiently project auxiliary light in the case of projecting the auxiliary light to field image plane where plural focus detecting points are arranged. SOLUTION: In this focus detector where plural focus detecting points are arranged on the field image plane to which the auxiliary light can be projected and which is provided with plural photoelectric conversion means corresponding to the focus detecting points and a focus detecting point selection means capable of selecting the respective focus detecting points; an auxiliary light emission threshold being reference for judging the propriety of the projection of the auxiliary light (step 7) according to information obtained from the focus detecting point selected by the focus detecting point selection means (step 1) is set to a different value according to the focus detecting point (step 4). |
