PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detection system, enabling automatic calibration and accurate detection of a distance between an occupant and an air bag device. SOLUTION: In the occupant detection system 10, a prescribed radio wave is transmitted from a transmitting antenna 12 and received by a receiving antenna 14. When an ignition switch 70 is in 'ON' state, a received signal based on the received radio wave is inputted to a signal conversion part 28 for detecting a distance between the occupant 60 and the air bag device 40 for a driver seat. When the ignition switch 70 is in 'OFF' state, the received signal is inputted to a correction circuit part 30, and the means value of the received signals until turning on the ignition switch 70 is calculated. In a reference signal setting part 24, a new reference signal is set on the basis of the mean value. That is, calibration is carried out automatically.
