PURPOSE: To provide a small and easy-to-hold voice translating machine by preparing its casing consisting of a grip part which is held by a single hand of a user and an information input/output part which includes a voice input means, a voice output means and an information display means. CONSTITUTION: A casing 100 consists of an information input/output part 150 including an information display means 11, a voice input means 1 and a voice output means and an operating grip part 151 which is held by a user. Furthermore, the casing 100 has a small size to be easily stored into the breast pocket of an overseas traveler, for example. The part 151 has a shape that can be gripped by a thumb and another finger of the user so that the user can operate a voice input switch 101 while holding the part 151 by his/her single hand. Then the user utters his/her desired words to be translated and inputs them. These inputted words are converted into their corresponding character strings and the candidate character strings are simultaneously displayed on the means 11 in the order of higher likelihood.
