PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing dioxazine compound for the application to organic coloring agents which is able to solve environmental pollution being caused when ring closure reaction, essential operation to conventional method, is carried out in the presence of halogenated aromatic solvent by condensing a 3-amino-N-alkyl carbazole with chloranil and subjecting the resultant condensate to ring closure by use of an aryl alkyl ether as a reaction medium. CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of a dioxazine by ring-closure of a compound of formula I in the presence of a ring-closing agent, there is used, as a reaction medium, an aryl alkyl ether of formula II or a mixture of the ethers. In formula (I), R1 represents hydrogen or a 1-8C alkyl group. In formula II, n is an integer of (0 to 2), R1 is ethyl when (n=0) or methyl when (n=1 or 2). In case where a 3-amino-N-alkylcarbazole of formula III (wherein R1 represents hydrogen or a 1-8C alkyl group) is condensed with chloranil to obtain a condensate product of formula I and the resulting dioxazine is subsequently ring-closed, the condensation and ring closure in the compound of formula (II) permits no necessity of isolation of the condensate product of formula (I).
